Health Conditions
Life Insurance With Health Conditions
You have more options than most quote sites make it seem. Different carriers underwrite conditions very differently.
One of the biggest myths in life insurance is that a health condition means you can’t get coverage. In reality, carriers underwrite conditions very differently. The carrier that declines you might be the carrier a competitor would approve at a standard rate.
Our team knows which carriers approve which conditions, at what rate class, and what documentation helps.
Common conditions we help with
Diabetes
Both type 1 and type 2 are insurable. Carriers look at age of diagnosis, A1C numbers, treatment (pills, insulin), and whether there are complications.
High blood pressure
Most carriers approve at standard or preferred rates if it’s well controlled with medication. Recent blood pressure readings and a primary care physician’s notes make a big difference.
Heart conditions
History of a heart attack, stent, or bypass is insurable, though usually with a waiting period and a rate adjustment. The specific event, how long ago, and current cardiac status all matter.
Cancer history
Most cancers are insurable after a specific time in remission. The type of cancer, stage at diagnosis, and treatment history all factor in.
Mental health
Depression, anxiety, and ADHD are insurable. What matters is the severity, treatment history, and whether it’s well managed.
Tobacco and nicotine use
Smoking raises rates significantly but doesn’t disqualify you. Former smokers often qualify for non-tobacco rates after 12 to 24 months tobacco free.
Higher weight
BMI is one factor, and every carrier has different tables. Some carriers are much more generous than others.
Why the right carrier matters
Two carriers can look at the same application and come back with completely different decisions. One might decline, one might approve at a standard rate, and one might approve at a preferred rate. The difference can be hundreds of dollars a year.
Our team compares carriers based on your specific health profile, not a generic quote engine.
What documentation helps
- Recent doctor visit notes
- Current medication list
- Bloodwork results (A1C, cholesterol, blood pressure)
- For heart conditions: cardiologist notes, stress test results
- For cancer: treatment history, remission date, current status
